By now everyone’s forgotten their holidays and are back in the swing of things.
Having a job as varied as mine sees different months throwing up different challenges. Still one of the top ones is finding fascinating interviews for my ‘What I’ve Learnt’ column for the Sunday Times Lifestyle. In the last week I’ve interviewed the wonderful Raymond Ackerman, about to turn 80 and still a fighter for the consumer. Sometimes being a journalist is a great privilege. See my last columns on legendary singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka and the great George Bizos! Just being in such a presence is awe inspiring.
This month sees myself and SADAG (South African Depression and Anxiety Group) busy preparing for our Carter Center Mental Health Journalism Seminar to be held in Johannesburg on April 4/5. We will be hosting wonderful international and local speakers, including Bob Meyers, head of the US National Journalism Foundation. 30 invited journalists from print and electronic media will be attending the two days and I know they will come out motivated to write about the often ignored subject of mental health. I am also thrilled to say we are well on the way to be able to announce our taking over of the Carter Journalism Fellowships here in SA – more about that next month.
On my work front there’s more training, lots more writing and designing new courses, such as blogging…
If you have any media needs that aren’t covered on my website do give me a ring…
