Hard to believe it’s almost the end of the year - but it’s not going out quietly for me. I’m about to embark on a major ghost writing assignment – love to tell you who, but it’s ‘ghost’ writing!
Life as a journalist and writer is never quiet and from meeting presidents earlier this year I’ve graduated to purple dinosaurs. Yes on one day I can be writing about the world’s favourite dinosaur – Barney and post birth classes on vaginal exercises for The Baby Expo and the next I’m interviewing the amazing Professor Phillip Tobias for my new column in the Sunday Times Lifestyle. This is called ‘‘What I’ve learnt’. So far I’ve had the privilege of interviewing the legendary South African photographer, Alf Kumalo, Professor Tobias and the South African music icon, Claire Johnston of Mango Groove (see website for stories). But watch that space as more familiar legends will be appearing over the next year.
Exciting news on the Carter Fellowships for mental health journalism is that our 2010/11 Fellows, Salome Delport, health editor and writer for Rooi Rose Magazine and Joanne Lillie, freelance journalist, both from Cape Town recently returned from their first visit to the Carter Center in Atlanta, where they joined the six American and two Romanian Fellows during the Fellowship week. Watch out for their articles on mental health and Salome’s mental health blog in Rooi Rose.

October also sees me presenting at the 2010 PRISA Conference in Johannesburg where I’ll be talking about crisis communication – and I have to say thank you to BP and the Chilean miners for giving me so much to talk about on this topic!
In between I’m busy training a great group of people at CNBCAfrica – an exciting and growing station. It’s not just about stocks and shares but there are some great feature programmes to watch such as Media and Money and the new Mansfield on Money with Jeremy Mansfield in a whole new role.
And in between there’s training people from investment bankers to butchers! So as we wind down the year have a good one and do let me know if you have any media queries.
