Well, it's been a hectic start to the year but in this economic climate I'm definitely not complaining.
I was invited to join the Editorial Board of ISASA (the Independent Schools Association of South Africa) as a consultant working towards developing their publication Independent Education as well as once again being invited to be a judge of the prestigious Admag Awards which take place in April.
This month I also judged three sections of the National Press Club Awards, television news, television camerawork and documentary features. It was really interesting to see the difference in the work submitted and I have to say that the work entered by Carte Blanche surpassed all the other entries in the documentary section with the winner being producer Joy Summers, who also received the overall award of Journalist of the Year.
I'm also working with The Baby Expo (May 13 - 16) team on their media and putting together their Expo Guide. It's been enormous fun writing about baby and parenting matters again.
As usual training workshops have taken up much of my time and the more I do of these, the more I realise the great need out there for help when it comes to professional writing, whether it's for the media or just plain emails.
I'm pleased to say I'm finding time for writing again also and had some wonderful inspiration for my latest column (read it online here) from my unexpected dinner with President Zuma...
Writing is my first love and I'm also hopefully about to start a follow up to my latest book 'Surviving the Media', which is doing really well.
Another of my favourite areas of work is my media training and here I'm still involved with 702 as well as working with CNBC also. It's great working with and being able to mould young talent.
Warmest regards,
Marion Scher
